Welcome to Houston Middle School’s English as a Second Language (ESL) blog. I am Linda Smith, Houston Middle’s ESL teacher. I have been teaching English as a Second language for six years. Prior to this, I taught English in both middle and high school.
I am fortunate to work with this year’s 13 English Language Learners (ELLs). Our ELLs come from Japan, China, South Korea, Mexico, and Thailand.
Learning a new language is hard work, especially for ELLs who are recent arrivals. They are trying to learn English while trying not to fall behind in math, science, social studies, and reading. Hopefully, the ideas presented on this blog will help parents, students, and teachers make this process easier. Please let me know your thoughts and concerns.
